Revealed: Kibra MP Ken Okoth Asked Not to be Put on Life Support

Kibra MP Ken Okoth requested his family and doctors at Nairobi Hospital not to put him on life support in the event his crucial body organs failed, his brother Imran said.

Okoth, who was battling stage four colorectal cancer, passed away at the facility’s Intensive Care Unit after family and medics honored his wish.

“He has been on chemotherapy and radiotherapy and they really affected his immunity and he suffered organ failure. Ken was admitted on Thursday evening and was later transferred to the ICU and he died at around 4 pm,” Imran said during a press briefing at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.

“By the time he was being taken to the ICU, he wasn’t able to utter even one word,” he added.

Okoth, 41, died about three weeks after he returned to the country following an extended medical trip abroad. He jetted back to the country at the beginning of this month after spending more than five months receiving treatment in France.

In an interview early this year, Okoth said the cancer was discovered at a very advanced stage and could only be managed, not cured.
“I was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer with metastases to the liver,” he said.

“I will be using chemotherapy tablets every morning. Because my disease was discovered at a very advanced stage, it cannot be cured. It can only be managed,” Okoth added.

Before it was discovered he had cancer, Okoth said he was on treatment for ulcers and bacterial infections for about a year.

@Mugikuyu, indeed he did. I know this is veering off course, lakini at times like this, I find myself questioning why, oh why, the best, kind hearted people seem to die early? Why the nasty and selfish seem to live for ever? My mother would disown me for this (she brought me up not to question God) but I find myself wondering why God, that higher power would allow this if indeed he was that compassionate supreme being we are meant to look up to.

@ Sukari, given the knowledge we have now, there is no satisfactory answer to the question you raise. Is it really God allowing? Does he not see how valuable the likes of Okoth are to society,as opposed to murders, and killers who have to enjoy a 3square meal in prison when caught...
How about someone who misses a plane only to hear that it crashed. Did God save him...
Finally, does God answer prayers? Some will say he answers but not the way we want them, then why pray...
Let me go and sip some adult beverage...God willing.

Kenyan doctor's cannot diagnose such diseases early and a lot of Kenyans don't have enough money to seek advice elsewhere but for Mpigs. its a shame that these foolish politicians fail to improve healthcare simply because they can run overseas with their stolen wealth.

If he asked not to be put on life support, why then did the relatives put him on life support. Isn't that against his will? One's will need to be respected!
