MP Charles Jaguar Charged with Incitement, to Spend Second Night in Police Cells

Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua Kanyi alias Jaguar has been arraigned in court on Thursday.

Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Sinkiyan Tobiko, Jaguar was charged with incitement. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecution sought to have him detained for 14 days, arguing that he may interfere with the case if released on bail.

Jaguar will spend a second night in police cells pending a ruling on his bail application on Friday.

The youthful politician was arrested by plain-clothed police officers outside Parliament buildings on Wednesday afternoon.

He was apprehended for threatening to forcefully remove foreign traders from their shops in Nairobi.

"If you assess our markets, Ugandans and Tanzanians have taken over our businesses… Now we are saying enough is enough," said Jaguar when he visited traders along Kirinyaga Road.

He gave Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i 24 hours to deport all foreign nationals doing business in his constituency, failure to which he would mobilize youth to flush them out by force.

"If a 24-hour ultimatum is not enough for them to be deported, we will remove them and we’ll beat them up and we will not fear anyone,” said Jaguar in the remarks considered xenophobic.

afungwe! This nonsense needs to stop. Tanzanians and Ugandans are our brothers. Chinese and indians are a different story.

Apana such jobs need to be left to the locals. Ugandans and Tanzanians can do the same business at home. Wote warudishwe kwao wacha mambo ya xenophobia it is time. God knows the president caused all these people to descend on Kenya with his visa on arrival policy there are still to many youth in Kenya without jobs

I agree, however, our useless government Needs to stand up for Kenyans. there is many Kenyan Indians who belong but should do more to assimilate. Chinese should go home ASAP. Kenya has issues with TZ AND UG, however, they are still our brethren but our useless GOVT should do something. TZ isn't dealing in good faith with Kenya due to envy. there's no secret who the big boy is in E Africa and magufuli hates that.

Iam not sure even if Jaguar is serious about what he is saying. I think he just pandering to politics of division. If we have to have EAC,we cannot treat each other as enemies. All EAC members can do business with each other, legally. They are not forcing the Kenyan consumer to by from them.Let the consumer decide.
