MPs Ask Uhuru’s Nominee to Renounce Her US Citizenship Before Taking up Ambassador Job
The National Assembly Defense Committee has asked President Kenyatta's nominee for Kenya's High Commissioner in Seoul, South Korea, Mwende Mwinzi, to first renounce her US citizenship before taking up the job.
The committee approved Ms. Mwinzi's nomination as the Kenyan High Commissioner to South Korea.
In a report tabled before Parliament on Tuesday, the House team however asked the nominee to first renounce her US citizenship as provided in the Integrity Act.
"The committee recommends that Ms. Mwinzi be appointed subject to renouncing her US citizenship," part of the report reads.
During her vetting by the House team, Ms. Mwinzi explained that she was born in the US but she chose to be a Kenyan.
"I was born in the US but I belong to Kenya. You can choose where to belong but you cannot choose where to be born."
"I am a Kenyan through and through. I speak fluent Kamba and Kiswahili," she stated.
She further asserted that her loyalty lies with Kenya and had participated in more Kenyan elections than the American ones.
She unsuccessfully contested for Mwingi West parliamentary seat on a Jubilee Party ticket in the last elections.
"I am humbled by the warmth the people of Mwingi West have received me with. If you remember, I have been working with many of them in the last 10 to 15 years and so I am not a stranger."
"I want to make a difference in the quality of our people's lives. I have done this from out there and I will do it in there," she stated during her campaigns.

Ngai baba, now we have white people claiming to represent Kenya in Korea. I say this very conflicted because Githae sat in DC for years and hardly gave his own people passports or even have their calls answered. Whoever would be best for the job should be given opportunity and if we have to import MPs and presidents let it be IF we are to see results. Bear in mind we just had a Polish squander lots of money from KQ so white skin does not equate to better results. What a sad day!

In Seoul, one wrong move and she’ll be fired! Will she get her US citizenship back then? Wakamba ni waoga. Mwinzi angekuwa Mkyuk angekaa ngumu na aende hiyo mission ya South Korea. Having said that, hii tabia ya political handouts lazima ikome! What qualifications does she have. We have thousands of people working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign offices who are very highly qualified for the position. But Uhuru ni nani?
