Governor Mike Sonko Reclaims 200 Grabbed Parking Slots Ahead of Rollout of BRT in Nairobi

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko says that his administration has repossessed more than 200 public parking slots in the city that had been grabbed by cartels.

Sonko says the parking bays have been reclaimed in the past one month and City Hall is targeting over 50 other slots that are under the control of cartels.

“We have no room for land grabbers in Nairobi and my administration will not relent on its quest to reclaim grabbed public land in Nairobi as promised during my pre-election campaigns,” warns Sonko.

Tom Tinega, the Director for Parking says the County government will repossess all grabbed parking slots in the Central Business District (CBD) in the next few weeks.

“We have started the campaign in the CBD where a number of public parking bays have been grabbed by individuals who have redesigned the parking slots for their own personal benefit and we are targeting other 50 areas,” says Tinega.

Sonko says the reclamation of the parking bays is in preparation for the rollout of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system in the city.

Among slots that have been repossessed is the one between Nyayo House and Intercontinental hotel and another located next to Shell Petrol station on Haile Sillasie Avenue within the CBD.

“We want to warn the grabbers that we won’t entertain impunity. The administration will not condone land grabbers and that’s why we are on with this campaign to ensure we increase the parking slots in Nairobi by reclaiming the grabbed areas,” notes Tinega.

How do you reposes without charging anyone for the violation?
This is called degifting, taking back a gift that someone had gifted their whatever partners with.

A parking slot sounds like a parking space. Do you mean parking space as for one vehicle or parking lot as an area where you can park several vehicles?
The article sounds more like parking lot as they are called in the US.
