Gangsters Shoot Dead Former Kilifi Deputy Governor Kennedy Kamto Outside His Mombasa Residence

Unknown assailants on Wednesday morning killed former Kilifi County Deputy Governor Kennedy Kamto.

Police say the politician was waylaid by three gunmen who shot him dead as he entreated his residence in Nyali, Mombasa.

The criminals who covered their faces with masks are said to have demanded cash from Kamto before shooting him and escaping from the scene.

"The former Kilifi deputy governor this morning at 4:45 am when he was entering his home in Nyali was accosted by three gunmen who had their faces covered," says Coast Regional Police Commander Noah Mwivanda.

"In the ensuing confrontation, one of the gunmen shot him three times injuring him fatally. Our officers from Nyali Police Station rushed to the scene within 15 minutes and found him already dead," he adds.

The police commander says the gangsters only took Sh6,000 from a security guard before leaving. Officers have launched investigations into the 4:45 am incident.

His body has been taken to Pandya Memorial Hospital mortuary in Mombasa.
