President Kenyatta to Appoint Kalonzo as Special Envoy
President Kenyatta is set to appoint Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as a special peace envoy, the Star reports.
The publication says Musyoka's main duty as a special peace envoy will include acting as a mediator in local conflicts as well as outside the borders where Kenya’s contribution is required.
While attending the burial ceremony of Kalonzo's father in Kitui on Friday, President Kenyatta hinted at handing the Wiper leader a job.
" I’m grateful that Raila has been given a job by AU...He will be able to contribute here and don’t you think he will bring some money to Kenya? Is that wrong my brothers?"
“My brother Kalonzo should help us to bring the country together and peace for all Kenyans and even internationally. Every leader has something to contribute…all we need is to give each other space and respect one another!” added Kenyatta.
Speaking at the burial, Musyoka also gave indications of renewed relationship with President Uhuru, vowing to back his agenda for the country.
“I think I will be Uhuru’s right hand man from now on and I don’t want anyone to question me about it, if you do, you will realise that I am as stubborn as my departed father. I am doing this because we want this people to benefit; we want this nation to be one thing. My brother Raila we will continue to work together,” said Kalonzo, adding that he will not allow anyone to separate them henceforth.
“Nataka kutangaza hapa mbele yenu, kutoka leo nisiwai ona mtu akinitenganisha na kakangu Uhuru Kenyatta."
Kalonzo has in the past led mediation efforts in neighboring countries; Somalia and South Sudan.
