Migori Governor Okoth Obado Accused of Laundering Sh45 Million at a High-End Australian Casino

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) now claims that Migori Governor Okoth Obado laundered millions of shillings at an Australian casino.

EACC says this has been established in the ongoing investigations into how Obado and his alleged cronies stole more than Sh2 billion from Migori county government coffers.

The Star reports that documents by the anti-graft body show that the Obado and his children traveled to Australia carrying Sh45 million in the run up to last year's general election.

The agency further says that the millions were cleaned at a high-end casino in Australia. Obado and his proxies allegedly converted the cash into Australia dollars at Crown Towers Casino in Perth.

"The commission has sufficient information that on  February 19, 2017, the governor and his children travelled to Australia while in possession of USD45,000 believed to have been fraudulently acquired from the county and laundered the money into AUD57,646 at Crown Towers Casino, Perth Western Australia," EACC says

"The commission is in contact with the law enforcement agencies in Australia for related investigations."

Crown Towers Casino is a facility that prides itself in among other things VIP gaming.

"The action never stops at Crown Casino Perth — 24/7 gaming in a vibrant and luxurious environment unrivalled in Western Australia. With an exciting variety of table and electronic games, bars, lounges and more, Crown is where Perth comes to play," the Hotel that hosts the Casino says on its website.

"Staying at Crown Towers Perth is an indulgent experience, with its expansive lagoon pools, unparalleled city views, luxurious spa facilities, state-of-the-art fitness centre and high-end boutiques."

EACC says Obado and his associates registered more than 30 companies after he became governor in 2013. The companies were used to loot Sh2.5 billion from Migori county government in “fictitious” contracts.

Really Mr. Obado! While people at your county are dying of poverty.... flying toilets, poor roads, yethe you could not protect a young citizen who had conceived your own blood, the innocent blood was poured out like for a goat and can assume that everything is okay!.... yet you guys God is on your favor!. Tears of the people who voted for you and for the young deceased Sharon and her unborn baby will follow you for all the days of your life. This kind of leaders are our loved country haters number one.

I guess you haven't been to central province specifically Muranga County and witness the water war between the mafia trying to prey on the consumers and Muranga governor. Its a shame we seem not to realise or see the problem in our backyard but see others. Muichi ndeyonaga onaga aria angi. There is a time when Muranga a county used to be very rich but it was sucked dry by the so called elites in the eighties and nineties. Some of the culprits are the so called Muranga billionaires who continues to fight fow water and other resourcess.

The whole family is operating like mafias. Why hasn't the government arrested all these conmen and conwomen. They should be in jail somewhere. What is the wait. The governor is a killer already.

when the news about his "side kick" came out, his lawyers were quick to distance him from the murdered girl. Where are they now? Idont hear aword of defense from them. Why, because there exists irrefutable evidence.
If independence means looting public coffers, Iwould rather we remain"unindependent".
