Raila Will Have Offices in Five Countries after Landing AU Special Envoy Job, MP Junet Mohammed Says
Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed says Opposition leader Raila Odinga will have offices in at least five countries following his appointment as African Union (AU) special envoy.
The MP claims that Odinga will have offices in Nairobi (Kenya), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Johannesburg (South Africa), Cairo (Egypt) and Abuja (Nigeria).
Raila was appointed as AU High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa by African Union Commission Chairman Moussa Faki.
"He will be in many countries. First he will be based in Nairobi, where his main office will be. He is going to have an office in Johannesburg, Cairo, Lagos, and Addis Ababa," Mohammed says.
Junet, a confidant of the Opposition leader, has also dismissed calls by a section of Jubilee leaders asking Odinga to retire from local politics following his appointment to the top continental position.
"The appointment has nothing to do with the Kenyan politics. He will remain Nasa coalition and ODM party leader. He will still discharge his duties as a political party leader in this country," Mohammed says.
Last weekend, a group of Jubilee leaders led by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro urged Odinga to quit local politics now that he has landed a 'bigger' job.
“Because he has a bigger job in the whole of Africa, he should now leave local politics to us," Nyoro said.
