MPs Want Gov't to Set Up Special Detention Facilities for Kenyan VIPs

A section of Members of Parliament have called for setting up of special detention facilities for VIPs in the country.

Reacting to the detainment of embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado who is being held at the Industrial Area Remand Prison after the high court denied him bail, the MPs raised questions on the status of the Nairobi facility.

Led by Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, the leaders argued that Industrial Area Remand Prison was too low to hold an individual of Governor Obado's stature. Atandi said Obado and other VIPs should be held in decent facilities such as Kileleshwa police station.

"Some police stations have better facilities than others such as Kileleshwa. I am sure Obado is not having a good time at Industrial Area," said Atandi.

"I think VIPs should get better treatment as remandees owing to their status in society," he added.

His sentiments were echoed by Makueni MP Dan Maanzo who said that holding VIPs in such facilities poses a risk to their lives.

"When VIPs are in custody, they may meet relatives of those who they are suspected to have hurt. These relatives may mete justice," said Maanzo.

Obado has been spending nights at the Industrial Area Remand Prison since Monday and will stay there for the next 10 days awaiting a ruling on his bond application. He has been charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

MPs again!!!
Good Lord, what are these idiots taking Kenyans for? Donkeys? They should be locked up with everyone else including chokoras, for example.

And absolute power corrupts absolutely." Ndugu na dada zetu (wahudumu wetu) wamechanganyikiwa.

That has to be one of thee most absurd bs coming from a gang of thieves. They know there forty days are coming. A thug is a thug and prisons aren’t meant to be fun places. Unbelievable

Shows what kind of leaders we have in parliament. I think all VIPs should be hosted at Industrial area with chokoras like someone mentioned above along with the good residents from kibera, mathare, korogocho, mukuru kwa njenga, kayole, dandora...you get the drift that way when they steal they know who the real Wanjiku is. The people they have failed to serve, the forgotten, the downtrodden, the oppressed and exploited. Those surviving on ksh 60 per day.

Hey Mr Atandi, having a good time should be the least of Obados concerns whether in industrial area prison or kamiti. He is charged with murder, and as such,he should be treated like others who commit similar crimes.
May be you Atandi should learn a lesson here and avoid being in the same situation as your friend. Secondly, talk to the relevant authorities about upgrading the standard of prisons in Kenya if you are so concerned. Your concern should not be only for fatcats.

How pathetic???? The thieving/killing politicians demanding special treatment when they are got. Ofcourse they are better than anyone else!!! Some nerves!!! They are rotten to the core. Maybe we should build them a special five star facility just in case. I saw Bill Cosby being driven straight the regular jail like everyone else even with all his wealth.

When you commit a crime,in this case murder you are at the mercy of the judicial system as a criminal. You forfeit your "maringo status",and are treated as murderers should under the law.To avoid such embarrassment, one should avoid doing acts that would land them in jail, or prison.

The audacity of these crooks confounds me,at least masquerade your schemes. Fruits of impunity laid out in public. Who cares what a common man thinks about a 5 star prison paid for by.....u guessed it. Instead of asking the same victims, you loot from daily, to foot your shenanigans, start planning ahead. Say like put down 20% of your plunder towards the ‘hotel’ coz we all know it’s just a matter of time before you fall out with the cartel chief since that’s the only time your kind is held accountable.FFS

Okoth Ogada is not comfortable where he is for sure. Sharon and her dead fetus sired by the said Okoth were not feeling comfortable when they were brutally murdered allegedly at his behest. Are our politicians super humans? Are they more equal than the rest of us who elect them to their positions? Should they kill, murder, loot and steal and after that we give them special treatment? Let them rot in jail just like any other criminal. There is nothing special with/about you. The only special thing you guys have is the ability and insatiable desire to steal from Kenyans by raising your pay and other benefits at will. We will meet you at the ballot box come 2022.
