Kenyan Woman Involved in Sh140 Million Robbery in Dubai Arrested with Sh13 Million

A Kenyan woman suspected to be among individuals involved in the robbery of Sh140 million (Dh5 million) in Dubai in March has been arrested.

Rebecca Mweni Musau was arrested by Kenyan police who have been collaborating with the International Criminal Police Organisation, Interpol at the Kenyan border town of Namanga.

The detectives arrested Ms Musau after a tip-off from Immigration officials, who found out that her passport had been flagged. She was driven to Nairobi, where officers seized Sh13 million from her new house in Ruai estate. The cash is suspected to be part of the loot stolen while on transit three months ago.

Mweni alongside Charles Karanja and another suspect who police declined to reveal identity, freed after the heist and have been on United Arab Emirates police radar.

“We arrested her but the other gentleman is on the run but we hope we will eventually get her as we go along with the investigations,” Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer Joseph Kariuki said.

Dubai’s Ministry of International Corporation had written to Kenyan authorities, asking them to help trace the two Kenyan citizens.

Mweni, together with Charles Karanja, who worked as a security guard allegedly stole the money from a vehicle that was moving the cash to an ATM at a popular shopping mall in Dubai.

Karanja is said to have distracted his colleagues at the shopping mall before escaping with the cash alongside a male and a female at around 10.30pm on March 2nd, 2018. Karanja was arrested two weeks later at an apartment in Al Nahda, Sharjah by Dubai police.
