Kenyan Female Pilot, Captain Irene Koki to Fly Kenya Airways' Maiden Nonstopt Flight to the US
Kenyan female pilot, Captain Irene Koki will fly the inaugural Kenya Airways nonstop flight to the United States on October 28th, The Star reports.
Irene made history after she landed Kenya Airways' fourth Dreamliner aircraft at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), becoming the first African female captain to fly a plane of such calibre.
The maiden flight is expected to depart JKIA at 11.25 pm on October 28th and land at the John F Kennedy International Airport in New York at 6.25 am the next day, with President Uhuru Kenyatta being among passengers on board.
A return flight will then depart JFK in NY at 12.25 pm the same day and touch the ground in Nairobi at 10.55 am the next day.
The national carrier began selling tickets for its inaugural direct flight in January, a ticket for economy class going for Sh89,000 two way, while business class customers will pay Sh257,634 roundtrip.
The Kenya Airways planes plying this route will carry 234 passengers, 30 at the business class and 204 in the economy section. They will have four pilots, 12 cabin crew members and 85 tonnes of fuel loaded one way.

Relax. A flight normally has 1 captain. This article means Koki will be the captain of the flight from JKIA to New York.
Let us celebrate the achievements of our ladies. Being a captain of such a flight is no mean achievement even for a man. Koki is not only a lady, she is an AFRICAN lady where a very large portion of people still think a woman's place is in the kitchen.

@xG, you are correct. cockpit can sit 4 pilots,Two fying and two reserves in aplane that is flying that many hours,ie from Kenya to USA.
I look at this as 1/2 truth type of information intended to catch the audience and probably have them talking,like we are now.At the same time give our lady pilot a high profile among men.

Man.. dont be dump.. nothing like 4 pilots on aplane.. iyo sio basi inashikwa steering wheel throughout. We only have 2 pilots,1st officer(captain,Pilot) & 2nd officer(Co Pilot). The only other crew in the cockpit is the flight engineer,who sees to it that everything runs smoothly ie the instruments,engines, he also helps in calculations like how much fuel for how long kind of thing. The captain is incharge but can designate someone duties to the copilot.
This KQ maiden flight surprisingly will be on Autopilot for the longest part of the flight. In most cases aplane is much safe on Autopilot during flight. Pilot though must be hands on during take off & landing, the most dangerous period in a flight.

@ Enforcer, I don't know how many romantic relationships you have had,depending on your preference of course.But male female relationships sometimes gets too"toxic" for either party to be forced to continue with it. The best solution if you are married is usually divorce.So divorce has a very valuable function,despite the negative fall outs. Some would kill each other if they did/don't have divorce outlet.
