Fears of Jubilee Collapse as Deputy President William Ruto's Allies Form Two New Political Parties

Deputy President William Ruto's close allies have reportedly registered two political parties, a move that further escalates rumors of split of Jubilee Party split.

The Registrar of Political parties Lucy Ndung’u on Tuesday confirmed that she recently issued United Green Party (UGP) and Grand Dream Development Party (GDDP) with certificates of registration.

“We have issued provisional registration certificate to the two parties but I cannot give you the details of the interim officials because I am not in office,” Ms Ndung’u told Daily Nation.

The move comes amid speculation of mistrust and suspicions between President Kenyatta and Ruto's camp, which has left Jubilee party at the risk of collapse.

A source at the Registrar of Political parties' office said the two new political outfits are linked to Cornelly Serem (Aldai MP), Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, Oscar Sudi (Kapsaret MP) and Caleb Kositany (Soi MP), all Ruto's lieutenants.

Earlier this week, Senator Cherargei intimated that they were contemplating to jump to a new political vehicle ahead of the 2022 presidential elections.

“We are thinking of a new vehicle ahead of 2022. We cannot work with saboteurs, we cannot work with those who think they can block DP’s 2022 bid. We can’t work with our enemies,” said Cherargei.

Jubilee was born ahead of 2017 general elections after folding up of several briefcase parties including President Kenyatta's TNA and Ruto's URP.

Lisemwalo lipo, kama halipo, laja. These rumors of jubilee party collapse have been circulating for a couple of weeks now. Let’s wait and see. The shameful part is that these so called leaders are focusing on forming parties ahead of an election that is 4 yrs away, instead of doing what they should be doing. The current game is you campaign, get elected, get sworn in and then begin campaigning.

Ruto, you are leading us down the path of concluding you are self-serving. Your main ambition is to get to the helm of the country’s leadership. 2022 is three years away, yet your main occupation with your cohorts is the presidency. Your claim you are helping Uhuru accomplish the big 4 agenda has taken a back banner. Why do you think you are entitled to the presidency? I hope you are not planning mayhem in the Rift Valley if your plans don’t work. Kenyans, be on the watch out. Check out every shipment. You remember the deadly Moi arrows and the killing of hundreds of people in the Rift Valley! Ruto, govern with the president. Otherwise we are led to think you are sabotaging his agenda. You are exhausting an already election weary population. Give us a break for a couple of years. Give us some breathing time. Otherwise, we are asking, what are you afraid of?
