Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua's Election Nullified

The Appeals Court has on Friday nullified the election of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
In its ruling on Friday morning, the court said that election results declared by the County Returning Officer failed the Constitutional test and could not be verified.
"The results as declared by the returning officer failed the constitutional test," the court ruled.
Mutua's election was annulled by a three-judge bench led by Justice William Ouko after a successful appeal by his arch-rival Wavinya Ndeti of Wiper Democratic Movement party.
Wavinya moved to the Appeals Court in March after the High Court in Machakos upheld Mutua's victory in the August 8th, 2017 elections.
The court further directed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct a fresh election within 60 days and the certificate issued to Mutua be set aside.
Speaking outside the court after the ruling, a defiant Mutua said: “We will move to the Supreme Court and we will still be in office till the Supreme Court rules otherwise.”
Mutua further indicated that his bid for presidency in 2022 is unstoppable despite the small hurdles.
“These are just small hurdles and it cannot kill my spirit,” he said about the ruling.

Kenya needs to wake up, election petition should be made quick and within a given period of weeks if not days, so that whoever is declared can give service to people as soon as possible, all these judges should be quick and timely in their decision, this is almost 1 yr since election so now left with 4 yrs, for the winner to work, no sense at all
