Deputy President William Ruto Responds to President Kenyatta's 'Anatangatanga' Jibe

Deputy President William Ruto has appeared to downplay existence of any bad blood between him and President Kenyatta.

On Wednesday, President Kenyatta was captured saying that Ruto loiters around the country, remarks that Kenyans on social media termed as demeaning and disrespectful to his deputy.

"Hii Kijana anaitwa Ruto unajua kila weekend anatangatanga kila pahali atakuwa anapitia hizi machoro choro mkiona kuna kitu inaenda kona kona mumwambie." President Kenyatta said.

(This young man called Ruto, you know, who loiters everywhere every weekend will be passing through these alleys, if you see something wrong happening, tell him).

However, addressing mourners at the burial of National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi’s mother in Embu on Saturday, Ruto said he will diligently tour the country and report to the President on the progress of different projects being undertaken by the government as the Head of State instructed him.

“Mr President, it is time for you to tour the country and listen to the people on the ground...but as a result of the directive you gave me the other day that I should implement every weekend as I loiter around in remote areas, upcountry, counties and even back streets, I will give a summary of findings" Ruto said.

President Kenyatta also seemingly appeared to clear the air on his Wednesday remarks about Ruto by once again telling the Deputy President to inspect a project in a nearby school as he 'loiters' around.

"Naskia kuna hii primary school ambayo watu wengi hapa wamesoma… hii Kanyambora Secondary School si iko hapa hapa tu? Naskia iko na shida ya labaratory kwa hivyo kwa kumbusho la mama Waziri wa Elimu yuko hapa Amina, mimi nataka hiyo labaratory itengenezwe watoto wa hapa waweze kukumbuka huyu mama kupitia hii labaratory halafu huyu William wakati anazunguka zunguka na kuzururazurura atakuja kuangalia kama imemalizika, si ni namna hiyo?” the president said during the funeral.

“I am told there is this primary school where most of you from this village attended which has an issue with the laboratory. So in memory of the deceased I want it to be repaired so that students here remember mama and then when (Deputy President) William (Ruto) will be moving around he will come and inspect it.”

I seem to remember Kenyans being stopped by the Police, ordered to "toa kitambulisho" and if one didn't have one, charged for loitering? Ama part with kitu kidogo? Leo hii the President is commending his deputy for "loitering or kutangatanga". I hope Ruto's ability to eat humble pie will pay off in the long run.

Ndugu Ruto: When you were running in 2013, you Uhuru said that you will have equal powers as co-presidents. I would like to remind you (just in case you think that all Kenyans have a warthog memory - 15 seconds) that your time as a co - president is coming to an end come 2022.

We desperately need fresh ideas from a new president with "zero" skeletons. Your have several closets and you know it.

Please start to prepare vacating your office and stop taking Kenyans for granted.
