Jaguar Says He Won't Negotiate, Won't Participate in Repeat Starehe Nomination, Tells Maina Kamanda to Step Aside

Musician Jaguar has said he will not negotiate with Maina Kamanda on the outcome of the Jubilee nominations for the Starehe constituency held on Wednesday, and instead wants Kamanda to step aside.

Jaguar, whose real name is Charles Njagua Kanyi, had been projected as the winner of the Jubilee Party primary in the constituency. The Jubilee returning officer however declared Kamanda as the winner with 10,374 votes against Jaguar’s 8,391, after which Jaguar led a protest to Jubilee Party headquarters in Pangani.

On Saturday, Jaguar said Kamanda has been urging him to negotiate, which the musician says he is not wiling to do. Jubilee has called for the primary election to be repeated, but Jaguar says he will not be participating in a repeat of a process he won fairly.  "We don't want negotiations ... I will not sit down with anyone and will not go back to the elections again. I am not ready to talk to him (Kamanda). Democracy is not about negotiation," Jaguar said on Saturday.

"We are not stupid ... Tangu lini wazee wakaanza kuwaibia watoto wao? Na kama anasema mimi ni mtoto wake basi aniheshimu," asked Jaguar.
