Former South Korean President Who Got in Legal Trouble after Buying Viagra in Kenya Handed 24-Year Prison Term

Park Geun-hye, the former South Korean President who is alleged to have purchased packs of Viagra during her State visit to Kenya in 2016 was on Friday handed a 24-year prison term after being convicted for corruption.

During her trip to Kenya in 2016, Park is said to have bought 360 erectile dysfunction pills, raising questions on its intended use.

During court proceedings in November, 2016 on her fate after calls for her removal, Park's office confirmed that she indeed bought the erectile dysfunction pills in Kenya.

However, South Korean authorities denied that it was meant for libido enhancement, saying it was used to treat altitude sickness for members of the presidential entourage.

She was impeached by Parliament in December, 2017 over a massive corruption scandal. The former President will now spend 24 years behind the bars after she was found guilty of bribery, coercion and abuse of power. A fine of $17 million (Sh1.7billion) was also slapped on her.

“The amount of bribery the accused received or demanded in collaboration with Choi amounts to more than 23 billion Won,” Judge Kim Se-Yoon said, referring to Park’s secret confidante and long-time friend Choi Soon-sil.
