Emotional CS Omamo Breaks Down During President Uhuru’s Farewell

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo could not hide her emotions during President Kenyatta's military farewell at Lang’ata Barracks on Friday.

Omamo, in a video that has since gone viral, is seen holding back tears while walking a few meters away from President Kenyatta before using a handkerchief to wipe away the tears.

During the farewell ceremony hosted in his honor as the outgoing Commander-in-Chief in line with the traditions and customs, Kenyatta urged the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) to remain steadfast and support the incoming administration.

“As we depend on God to protect our beloved country, we all look upon you to implement this prayer by defending our territorial integrity and sovereignty by always being mission ready,” he said.

Kenyatta appointed Omamo as the Cabinet Secretary for Defense in 2013, becoming the first woman in Kenya's history to hold the position. She held the docket until 2020 when she was moved to the Foreign Affairs ministry.

Omamo, a lawyer by profession, previously served as Kenya's ambassador to France and Chairperson of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
