Kenyans in Texas Host Fred Matiang’i Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has intensified his preparations for the 2027 Kenyan general election by engaging with the diaspora community in Texas.
At a town hall meeting held at DFW Celebrations in Irving, Matiang'i addressed Kenyans residing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, signaling a strategic focus on this increasingly influential voter base. Matiang'i's visit highlights a growing trend among Kenyan presidential hopefuls, who are recognizing the diaspora's pivotal role, both economically and politically.
With expanded voter registration in key international locations, these candidates are prioritizing direct engagement with Kenyans abroad. The Texas event, promoted under the banners #MatiangiThe6th and #KenyaDiaspora2027, served as a platform for Matiang'i to present himself as a visionary leader capable of addressing the concerns of Kenyans living outside the country.
During the meeting, Matiang'i blended policy discussions with personal appeals, including segments delivered in his native Kisii dialect, resonating strongly with the attendees. He emphasized his commitment to integrating diaspora concerns into national policy.
"We cannot build a future for Kenya without the diaspora. Your voice matters. Your presence counts," Matiang'i told the crowd.
