Four-year-old Boy in Critical Condition After Being Hit by Unlicensed Driver in Donholm

A four-year-old boy is in critical condition following a traffic accident near CamelVale Catholic Primary School in Donholm on May 15, 2025.

Jared Omondi sustained severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle, while his six-year-old sister, Elizabeth Waringa, suffered bruises. The siblings were walking home with their nanny when the incident occurred just outside the school's gates.

Eyewitness Pamella Atieno Ombwao, a local vendor, responded immediately by flagging down a motorcyclist to transport the children to Mama Lucy Hospital.

Elizabeth was treated for her injuries, but Jared's condition necessitated a transfer to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where he is receiving treatment for a complex scalp injury. Police reports indicate that the driver involved was a trainee operating a vehicle not affiliated with any licensed driving school. This revelation has fueled public outrage, with community members questioning the legality and safety of unregulated driving instruction taking place in residential and school zones.

"This was inevitable," a concerned parent from CamelVale, who requested anonymity, stated, reflecting a sentiment echoed by many. "Why was an inexperienced driver learning on a road full of children?"

The incident has been formally reported to the Soweto Police Station. Authorities have confirmed that legal proceedings will commence once Jared's condition stabilises sufficiently for his parents to provide an official statement. The investigation will focus on establishing accountability for the accident, including the driver's actions and the potential liability of the vehicle owner.

Jack Oduor, Jared's father, expresses his devastation, emphasising his focus on his son's recovery. "No parent should ever go through this," he lamented, holding a photograph of his children.
