Jubilee Party representatives have asserted that former President Uhuru Kenyatta and current President William Ruto have no political understanding or alliance.
This declaration follows a notable meeting between the two leaders at Kenyatta’s Ichaweri residence last month, which ignited widespread conjecture about a potential collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections. Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has addressed party supporters, urging them to remain resolute and reject unsettling narratives suggesting that Kenyatta has aligned with the government.
Kioni lauds Kenyatta’s dedication to national stability and collective welfare, insisting, "He stands for nothing less than a stable, prosperous, and well-governed country. He called upon the younger generation, particularly Generation Z, to advocate for justice and fairness within governance."
During a recent funeral service for a family member, Kenyatta's remarks appeared to critique the Ruto administration, warning against a culture of fear and promoting active political participation over resignation. He stated, "Cowards have no space in liberations," imploring the youth to demand their rights assertively.
Ruto responded indirectly to these comments, cautioning against inflaming tensions among young people and emphasizing constructive opportunities for their development. Kioni also addresses rumours stemming from Ruto's alleged gesture of gifting Kenyatta 12 goats as a form of reconciliation, dismissing them as unfounded.
He argues that if such a transaction took place, it was more commercial than cultural in nature. Furthermore, Kioni defends Kenyatta’s integrity, reaffirming that personal gain cannot sway him from his principles. He asserts, "Mr. Kenyatta has no price that can attract him to abandon the cause for the common good."
The relationship between Kenyatta and Ruto has been contentious since their political alliance deteriorated in 2018, following the 2017 elections. Kenyatta publicly supported opposition leader Raila Odinga in 2022, resulting in a loss of favour among voters in the Mt. Kenya region. The political landscape has shifted under Ruto’s leadership, especially after his fallout with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Ruto’s recent appointments, which included several former Kenyatta allies in key government positions, have raised questions about Kenyatta’s potential involvement. However, Kioni firmly rejects any suggestions of collaboration or endorsement from Kenyatta, asserting that each party was operating independently.
