Raila, Azimio Leaders Meet New British High Commissioner Wigan

Azimio la Umoja leaders today held a meeting with the new British High Commissioner Neil Wigan.

The Azimio leader Raila Odinga was flanked by the Democratic Action Party of Kenya's (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa and National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi. During the meeting, they lauded the longstanding historical ties between Kenya and the United Kingdom. Wigan commended Kenyans for their unyielding efforts towards democracy and the establishment of a new constitution that supports devolution. He also expressed his admiration for the ongoing bipartisan talks.

In July, Neil Wigan took over as the new British High Commissioner to Kenya, succeeding Jane Marriott who had been reassigned to Pakistan. One of Wigan's chief objectives is to invigorate and fortify the synergy between Kenya and the United Kingdom in the principles of democracy, stability, trade, and investment. Prior to his appointment, Wigan had been the British High Commissioner to Israel.

Elsewhere, it has come to light that Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has been campaigning for the removal of UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala. The main issue revolves around the disorganized party recruitment membership drives that have been causing chaos in recent months. Barasa blames the Secretary-General for hindering the accessibility of new members to the party.

Barasa also accuses the Secretary General of taking a biased stance in disputes between UDA governors and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), which has led to disagreements with several Senators. As an example, Barasa points to the Kiambu county feud, where Malala allegedly supported the governor and even threatened to remove some MCAs from the party.
