Ruto Nominates Three of His Allies to Oversee Handover of Power from Uhuru

President-elect William Ruto has nominated three of his allies to the Assumption of Office of the President committee which will ensure a smooth handover of power from President Kenyatta to his successor.

The three include immediate former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei, and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Secretary General Veronica Maina.

The three will represent Ruto in the 20-member committee and champion his interests ahead of the swearing-in if no petition against his election as the country’s fifth president is filed at the Supreme Court.

Last week, the committee held its inaugural meeting to make preparations for handing over by the outgoing President to the President-elect.

Addressing the media at Harambee House, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua who chaired the committee said they are ready to facilitate a smooth transition.

“In fidelity with the dictates of our Constitution, I have this morning chaired the inaugural meeting of the Assumption of the office of President committee," said Kinyua.

The committee is tasked with facilitating the handing-over process between the outgoing president and the president-elect, organizing security, personnel, and facilities needed for the president-elect, facilitating the briefing of the president-elect by various public officers, and organizing the swearing-in ceremony of the president-elect.

Kinyua further announced that the date of the swearing-in of the president-elect will be declared a public holiday.

Other members of the committee include Attorney General Paul Kihara, Chief of Defence Forces Robert Kibochi, Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho and Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau.
