Your Time Is Up, Martha Karua Tells President Uhuru, Asks Him to Facilitate Smooth Handover of Power

NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has warned President Kenyatta against attempts to cling onto power.

Speaking during NARC-Kenya’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) at Ufungamano House in Nairobi on Friday, Karua urged the president to facilitate a seamless handover of power to his successor once his 10-year term expires later this year.

Citing remarks by Kenyatta’s close allies that he is too young to retire and may serve the country in another capacity, Karua noted that such a move would be illegal as the Constitution allows a leader of government business, regardless of their title, to only serve for a maximum of 10 years.

“Tumeskia watu wakisema, na ata Attorney General amekuwa quoted akisema kwamba hakuna kizuizi la kikatiba rais kuchukua kazi nyingine kama Prime Minister. Niliwaambia kitambo, hiyo inaweza kuwa ni haramu, term limit ni kwamba wengine waweze kupata nafasi,” said Karua.

“I want to tell any fellow lawyer who may try to misinterpret the Constitution; the term limit means 10 years to steer the nation at the top level, you exit and go do something else. This is irrespective of your age, you could even be 40, term limit ikifika unarudi nyumbani.”

She further called on Kenyatta to emulate his predecessors Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Arap Moi, who willingly and peacefully transferred power when their respective terms elapsed.

“Wakati wa kwanza tuliona rais akiwacha mamlaka wakati wake ukifika ilikuwa ni 2002 wakati Kibaki alipoingia na Moi akaondoka. That was our first democratic transition.

A trillionaire who's never known poverty and has driven more into poverty with chino loans must leave at midnight on election day. He's not needed no more

Everyone serving the public should have a term limit. Then we can move on to parastatals which really need to be privatized.

The advent of the BBI was mainly to reincarnate President Uhuru back into power especially with the creation of the Prime minister position. It’s true the Trojan had some good things to help the common man. That’s was intended to hoodwink wanjiku into accepting to sign. So much billions was misused during this exercise. And either way billions of money was stolen in the process.
Uhuru support for his opposition chief is not a genuine gesture. It seems he is not giving up on his quest to get back to power even if it will take setting up a back room IEBC for that purpose! And this will definitely rub the country the wrong way. It’s a recipe for yet another election violence.
The best way forward for him is to pull back, know his time is ending come August and prepare to go to Gatundu for unconditional pots of muratina. Kenya is greater than an individual.

Increasing MPs/constituencies and expanding the govt made BBI a trash like the current constitution. It meant additional taxation to hungry billionaires.Or how else were they to fund it?The katiba should be amended to downsize the bloated by 3/4.How long will Kenyans continue taking loans to finance 48 useless governments and 49 looting parliaments duplicating functions/duties?Why take loans to pay salaries to idle staff for looting?

Sometimes you don’t talk much sense. The Constitution does not allow for a president to stay beyond his term. Why are campaigns on? If you know what we don’t know, tell us otherwise shut up. Tell us about what you stand for and what we should look for in the aspirants for the office. Side shows won’t cut mom.
