KRA Pays Tribute to its Tax Investigator Stung to Death by Bees

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has mourned its officer who was stung to death by a swarm of bees in Mombasa on Saturday.
In a statement, KRA said John Muthine Mutwiri was attacked by the stinging insects while driving along Jomo Kenyatta Avenue in Mombasa.
Dr. Edward Karanja, the Commissioner of Investigation and Enforcement Department where Mutwiri worked, eulogized him as a diligent, committed, and dependable officer.
“Colleagues at KRA will attest that Mr. Mutwiri, a Supervisor in the Investigations and Enforcement Department based at Customs House, Mombasa was a dedicated and professional Tax Administrator. He undertook his duties diligently and remained committed to the tenets of a world-class tax investigative and enforcement officer,” Karanja said.
“We are heartbroken at this loss of a dependable colleague, and we will dearly miss him even as we celebrate his professionally achieved milestones.”
A police report says Mutwiri was in the company of two people in the car when a swarm of bees circled the vehicle and attacked them.
“The bees entered the vehicle and they alighted to get safety outside. They all ran in different directions,” says a police report filed under OB number 41/11/12/2021 at Makupa police station.
As he scampered to safety, Mutwiri was overwhelmed by the multiple bee stings and collapsed at a garage in the Red Brick area within Majengo in Mombasa.
The owner of the garage rushed him to Coast Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
