Six Die in Nakuru After Consuming Illicit Liquor

Six people have been confirmed dead in Njoro, Nakuru County after reportedly drinking illicit liquor over the weekend.
Confirming the incident, Njoro sub-county police commander Jonathan Kisaka said all victims are residents of Jawatho slums in Njoro.
Five of the victims died while undergoing treatment at Njoro Sub-County Hospital while one was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The police commander indicated that four other people were receiving medical attention at the same facility and are in stable condition.
“The victims confirmed that they had been drinking liquor locally known as ‘machwara’ before falling sick,” Kisaka said.
Most of the victims complained of stomach pains, breathing difficulties, and blurred vision.
Police have launched investigations into the incident as a search for the suspected peddler of the killer brew continues.
Kisaka says detectives are awaiting a conclusive report after a postmortem on the deceased, adding that police are pursuing useful leads.
The incident comes barely four months after more than 30 people were hospitalized after consuming a poisonous alcoholic drink at Hodi Hodi village in Bahati, Nakuru county.
10 of the victims, among them a pregnant woman, died while being treated at Bahati Sub-County Hospital and Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.
