Three Suspects Arrested for Cultivating Bhang Worth Sh15 Million

Police in Nakuru are holding three suspects for allegedly cultivating bhang on a quarter-acre plot.

Victor Kung’u Wainaina, his son Broddus Wainaina, and Dennis Matete were nabbed by a multi-agency security team on Friday in Nakuru’s London estate.

The officers discovered, uprooted, and destroyed matured cannabis sativa plants that were ready for harvest. The destroyed plants weighing 500kgs had a street value of about Sh15 million.

“A multi-agency security team led by Nakuru Anti-Narcotics sleuths, stormed into the compound and destroyed what would have been a bumper harvest for the owners,” a police report reads.

Kung’u attempted to stop the operation by lying to police officers that he is a member of a Nakuru-based Community Based Organization (CBO) that is licensed to cultivate the plant. He also produced a letter purportedly drafted by the said CBO, allowing him to grow the plant.

“How comes nyinyi hamjui, halafu mbona hakuna consultation? Hii ndio inanionyesha kuwa hii ni malicious, unajua mnaharibu mali ya CBO, it is quite unfair, we have planted fruits with them,” he said.

The three were taken into police custody pending arraignment in court next week.

At least the 3 wereEirking hard and Hustling to Meet their Economic needs; as opposed to the Kenya corrupts in the Government (Civil servants, Elected officials, and even Church ministers) eating at the Expense of the Poor.

Leave these folks alone. In most part of the world Cannabis is becoming legal to cultivate and sell as medicinal remedies. The government ought to come up with ways to regulate and tax these growers as well as sellers. It is about time to tax this product. Deprive organized criminal gangs the power they have on Marijuana. Make it legal and tax it heavily.

They only way to win the war on Marijuana is by dealing with the demand side. This" marijuana farmers', that are arrested are not the only suppliers.Besides that, curtailing the supply will only increase the price/value due to short supply, and as you know, when the price increases, meaning ahigh profit margin, it will attract more farmers(suppliers) This is an ever ending circus.Mind you, the wealth, high ups,and powerful control this plant.Yeap its the golden rule: He who as the GOLD makes the RULES....
Just find away to discourage people from smoking it.When there is no demand, the supply dries up.
If that fails as it apparently has, then just legalize it and make it a controlled substance. My two cents.
