Baringo Becomes First County Assembly to Shoot Down BBI Bill

The Baringo County Assembly has shot down the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2020.

MCAs voted overwhelmingly to reject the Bill, with 30 voting ‘No’ while 11 voted ‘Yes’ during a chaotic sitting held on Thursday.

The session had earlier been interrupted for 30 minutes after Jubilee MCAs clashed with their Kanu counterparts, who accused the former of hatching a plot to reject the Bill before the requisite public participation.

Baringo becomes the first county assembly to reject the BBI Bill, which has so far been approved by three county assemblies namely Siaya, Kisumu, and Homa Bay.

The Bill requires the support of at least 24 county assemblies before it can be tabled at the National Assembly.

BBI proponents led by ODM leader Raila Odinga have expressed confidence that the Bill will be passed by more than 24 county assemblies before the end of this month.

Lots of LOVE ago the Baringo people for REJECTING a this damn BBI! This is not the time for it, the economy has spiraled down to its knees and we must set the country’s priorities straight! Thanks again for setting a moral example! Let’s keep shooting it down!
