One-Year-Old Baby Among 3 People Killed in Lake Baringo Boat Accident

A search for the bodies of three people who died following a boat accident in Lake Baringo on Saturday evening is still ongoing.
The vessel belonging to Teddy Bear Resort was carrying 12 people from Kampi Samaki beach to the famous Kokwa Island when it capsized.
Three people including the coxswain, 28, a 14-year-old Form Two girl, and a one-year-old baby perished while nine were rescued by divers.
Reports indicate the motorboat was overloaded as it was carrying 12 people instead of the required eight and it overturned after the coxswain applied emergency breaks when he approached the island.
Confirming the incident, Marigat sub-county police commander Benjoleve Manuve said the 11 passengers on board were members of two families who were on holiday.
They were guests at Teddy Bear Resort and had taken the boat ride to Kokwa Island for an expedition.
The search for the victims was suspended on Sunday and is set to resume on Monday.
Lake Baringo is one of the lakes in the Rift Valley whose water levels continue to rise, submerging some hotels, homes, and schools.
