MPs to Start Collecting One Million Signatures for BBI Referendum

A section of MPs has revealed plans to start collecting signatures to kick-start the process of amending the constitution through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

The MPs who are allied to President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga said the collection of at least one million signatures will begin in Nairobi on Monday.

Led by nominated MP Maina Kamanda, the leaders further dismissed those calling for a review of the final BBI report, saying the window to introduce amendments has closed.

“From Monday we shall start collecting signatures for BBI. I am sure in Nairobi alone we can collect up to one million signature required,” Kamanda said.

The MPs were speaking during a mass at Friends Church Quakers Kabete in Westlands on Sunday.

They included Timothy Wanyonyi (Westlands), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), Waihenya Ndirangu (Roysambu), George Aladwa (Makadara), and Yusuf Hassan (Kamakunji).

Others were Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Esther Passaris (Nairobi Woman Rep.), TJ Kajwang (Ruaraka), Julius Mawathe (Embakasi South), Charles Kanyi (Starehe), and Bernard Okoth (Kibra).

Deputy President William Ruto and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi are among those pushing for amendments to the final BBI report.

The two argue that a review of the report would allow Kenyans to amend the constitution through consensus as opposed to having ‘Yes and No’ camps.

During a pandemic?

They are collecting signatures to amend the constitution while people are dying.

This is why secession is the way to go.
