Police Gun Down 8 Suspected Thugs in Nairobi's Industrial Area
Police on Sunday night shot dead eight suspected criminals in a botched robbery incident in Nairobi’s Industrial Area.
The suspects had broken into two warehouses belonging to Sihra Coffee Machinery Service and Gensham Wood Enterprises, according to police.
They were in the process of loading stolen goods onto a lorry registration number KAS 340M when police arrived after receiving a report of the robbery incident.
“It was reported by the chief controller that there was a burglary and stealing at a godown along Lungalunga road opposite shell petrol station. Police officers from industrial police station swung into action,” reads a police report.
Police said the 12 people executing the 10 pm robbery were armed with pistols and machetes and opened fire at police officers when they were challenged to surrender.
A shootout ensued leading to the fatal shooting of eight of the suspects while four escaped with gunshot injuries.
Police recovered two home-made pistols loaded with two 9mm ammunition each, a revolver, and five machetes.
The truck was towed to Industrial Area police station while the bodies of the eight were moved to City Mortuary pending postmortem.
Confirming the incident, Nairobi police commander Rashid Yakub said a hunt for the escapees is ongoing.
