Kericho GK Prison Put Under Total Lockdown After 48 Test Positive for Covid-19
Kericho GK Prison has been placed under total lockdown after 48 Covid-19 cases were confirmed at the facility on Thursday.
The infections were detected from 75 samples collected from the correctional facility during a mass testing exercise carried out by Kericho County Department of Health.
The infected persons include inmates and members of the staff, and are all in stable condition, according to Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony.
“Consequently, the Department of Health and the Prisons Management have put in place appropriate measures to curb the spread,” Chepkwony said.
Movement in and outside the prison has been banned to prevent further spread of the virus while visits to inmates by relatives and friends have also been suspended until further notice.
Chepkwony said 61 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in various health facilities within the county while 52 others are under the home-based care program.
The county has so far recorded 63 Covid-19 recoveries and two deaths.
