Kenya’s Daily Coronavirus Cases Hit Record High

Kenya on Thursday confirmed 796 new Covid-19 cases, the highest one-day increase since the disease broke out in the country in mid-March.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 infections to 15,601 from cumulative tests of 261,027 samples.

The number comprises 501 males and 203 females with the youngest patient being a one-year-old child while the oldest is 87.

The Health Ministry said all the 796 new patients are Kenyans except three, with 89 percent of them (708) being asymptomatic.

378 patients, including 199 who were under the home-based care program, recovered from the virus raising the tally of recoveries to 7,135—representing 46 percent recovery rate.

At the same time, three additional patients succumbed to the disease bringing the Covid-19 death toll in the country to 263. This translates to a 1.7 percent mortality rate.
