Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Unveils Sh350 Million 'White House' [PHOTOS]

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has unveiled the county’s new state-of-the-art headquarters.

The new building, which is likened to the White House - the official residence and workplace of the president of the United States - was officially opened on Wednesday, May 6th, after its construction was completed.

j

The premises, which was reportedly modeled on the White House, was built in less than a year at a cost of Sh350 million, according to Citizen Digital.

“It has a West Wing and an East Wing. The West Wing will house the Governor, his Chief of Staff and executive meeting lounges where Dr. Mutua will meet top guests and dignitaries,” a source told Citizen Digital.

j

On the other hand, the East Wing will hold the office of the First Lady, the governor’s advisors, and other county officials.

j

The building also has an in-house conference facility with a capacity of at least 200, where the governor will hold county meetings, meet MCAs and other guests. In addition, there are banquet rooms where the governor can entertain his high-profile guests, the source revealed.

“I will tell you this, if President Uhuru Kenyatta ever decides he wants to work from Machakos County, there is an office that befits his stature. This is for posterity and not for the Governor who has less than three years to go,” the source added.

“State House was built during the colonial era and so are many other government structures both locally and abroad so that is what the Governor was thinking when he decided to build the county offices.”

“When you look at the cost, you realize that for a structure of this magnitude to cost Ksh.350 million is a bargain because this same building would have cost close to Ksh.3 billion if it was a national government project.”

Agree...with the west and east wings...lack of imagination or what? Maybe BLACK house would have been most appropriate if it has to be a house.

However, I think for that price, and what it'll offer for the county for years to come is worth it.

Mutua, there are so many hungry people in Ukambani. I think your county residents would have benefited more if the money you spent on this project would have been invested in project that could generate wealth for the county. This is wasteful spending. This project could have been done in the future...not now.

@Governer "...reportedly modeled on the White House..." Really. Kwani us African, there is nothing we can be proud of. Always looking up to mzungu to inspire us. I think the design is bland. Kwani there is are no Kenyans architect who would have come up with a design to pay homage to our Kenyan heritage. American leaders think we are shithole countries. Why base our design of such an important building on the white house. We need to do better. And we probably do not need a white House while our people are starving.

I am no architect, but the cost is what I applaud for a building that will house the whole county needs under one roof...with future growth if ever. Fathom the cost reduction in the long run....

There is nothing good about investing so much money on such a big fancy building in the middle of poverty which will never be income generating. Wasteful use of tax payers money and above all you call it or paint it White House. Why not Kamba House or Machakos something something.Mutua you can do better than this!

Unfortunately there are people who never see anything good others are doing... why always see the negative? Congratulations Governor! Others are saying we Africans are always copying.. Mmhh and you are typing in English.. somewhere outside the Kenyan territory... He has done well and if we had leaders who thought like Machakos governor.. Kenya would be way far

This is the same county where only a few years ago a young lad died after consuming his dog due to hunger. Most residents in the county do not have access to clean water.Starvation is the order of the day and here comes the governor building a white elephant. Can the taxpayers afford it did you even seek their opinion or was this just an ego trip.

Guy goes to further studies in USA, is enamoured with the White House. Goes back to Kenya, has a great great opportunity to make a difference in his community. What does the guy do? On the backs of his needy contituents decides to spoil/gift himself or stoke his ego. What a man child!

With what Mutua has already done for his county, he would be a great president for Kenya. I would vote for him without hesitation when I compare him to Ruto and Raila, who've done little to the people they've served as political leaders.

I think the Machakos Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua, is one of the few Kenyan leaders who really understand the whole concept of devolution within the Kenyan government and the goals to it. He is someone I honestly think works hard, with honesty to build his county, and I know you will bear witness with me when I say, Machakos county is one of the rapidly developing regions in Kenya, in reference to this website, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machakos_County, that has greatly improved since he came into office, which is a major contrast to its neighboring county, Nairobi County, which also happens to be the home to the country's capital city.
I don't care what everyone thinks of his new office, what I do know is, it's adding to his legacy as a great leader.
Thank you
