Court Allows Police to Detain Deceased Keroche Breweries Director Tecra Muigai’s Boyfriend for 21 Days

A Lamu court has allowed police to detain Omar Lali, the boyfriend of deceased Keroche Breweries Director of Innovations and Strategy, Tecra Muigai.

Lali, who was arrested by homicide detectives following the passing of Tecra, will be held at Lamu Police Station for 21 days pending completion of investigations into circumstances leading to her death.

The order was issued on Tuesday, May 5th, after Lali was arraigned before Lamu Principal Magistrate Allan Temba. 

Detectives apprehended Lali after he allegedly gave two conflicting accounts of the events leading to Tecra’s death, according to reports. He first told investigators that Tecra tumbled down the stairs but later changed his statement to say she slipped in the bathroom.

The two accounts were inconsistent with the version given by responders who rushed Tecra to hospital. A friend of Tecra is said to have found her lying unconscious at the house with blood was oozing from her mouth.

“It was on Tuesday last week when one of our friends found her in a coma in the house. By that time, her boyfriend was still asleep in the house. We had to wake him up. He was in shock after finding out that she was immobile,” a friend of Tecra told Daily Nation.

She was first taken to a local health facility before her mother sent a private helicopter to pick her from Manda Airport and airlift her to Nairobi for specialized treatment.

Sadly, Tecra succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital on Saturday, May 2nd.

Lali was with Tecra when the incident happened at a holiday home they were living together in Lamu Island on Tuesday, April 28th. 

The two had dated for about one year but Tecra’s mother was allegedly opposed to the relationship, Daily Nation reported.

Tecra is the daughter of Keroche Breweries Chairman Joseph Karanja and CEO Tabitha Karanja.
