Kenya Invites FBI to Investigate Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei’s Murder

Detectives from the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) are set to join investigations into the murder of Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei, according to reports.

This comes after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reportedly invited the FBI to help them unravel the murder of Kenei, who was the head of security at Deputy President William Ruto’s Harambee Annex office.

Kenei was found dead at his house in Nairobi’s Imara Daima estate on February 20th, the day he was supposed to appear before the DCI to record a statement over the alleged Sh39 billion fake military equipment tender that was allegedly brokered by former Sports CS Rashid Echesa inside DP Ruto’s office.

The DCI requested the FBI to carry out a parallel probe into the incident after feeling that the case was highly politicized, The Standard reports. 

The DCI also asked the FBI to join the case since one of the supposed suppliers of the military equipment is an American national named Koziowski Stanley Bruno. He is a director of Eco Advanced Technologies LLC, a company that was to be awarded the tender to supply the arms for the Kenya Defense Forces. 

Alongside another foreigner, Mamdouh Mostafa Lofty, Bruno helped DCI detectives to arrest Echesa and three others over the fake arms deal.

Preliminary investigations show Kenei was killed in cold blood in a well-planned murder plot that was made to look like a suicide. An autopsy showed Kenei died from a single gunshot wound on his head.

Last week, DCI head George Kinoti said Kenei’s murder was 100 percent connected to the fake military equipment scam.
