DJ Evolve’s Dad Thanks MP Babu Owino for Saving Son’s Life After Shooting

The father of Felix Orinda, populary known as DJ Evolve and who was shot and wounded by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, has spoken out.

In an interview with K24 on Thursday night, John Orinda said he has never met MP Babu but thanked him for rushing his son to Nairobi Hospital immediately after he shot him. CCTV footage caught Babu shooting DJ Evolve on January 24th at B-Club in Kilimani, Nairobi.

“He is still in a critical condition and he has never spoken for the last four days but we hope for the best,” John Orinda said, adding that the bullet went through his son’s spinal cord.

Orinda further noted that doctors told him that his son will undergo another surgery next week and acknowledged that he would not have survived if Babu did not take him to Nairobi Hospital.

“I really appreciate Mr. Owino for taking my son to Nairobi Hospital, could it have been another medical facility my son could be dead,” he said adding that Babu has paid the hospital bill amounting to Sh800,000.

Babu, who was charged with attempted murder, was released last Monday on a cash bail of Sh10 million, which is to be paid in four installments of Sh2.5 million each.

DJ Evolve, who is still admitted at the hospital, already underwent two surgeries to remove a bullet lodged in his neck and a blood clot.

... life is more important than money... The Old Man just accepts this fact of life. Or would you rather that Babu Owino paid much more millions, when his Victim is already dead? He is alive now, and Doctors are treating him. First things first. The DJ needs Medical and Human Support, as of now. We will apportion blame, at the right time.

@Maina,this mzee understands it could have been worse. Ongili at least took the son to the hospital and paid bills. We know in the past, politicians were party to having their victims maimed or killed and left without looking back. Its rather disturbing that Kenya has gotten to the point where victims would rather thank the perpetrators because justice system does not exist and health care is preposterous. Its an act of desperation coupled with wisdom and as you pointed out, poverty.

He wouldn't have had to save him if he had not shot him!!!We each have one life to live. We shouldn'nt have to thank some gangsta wannabe for only messing up 90% of that life. Inasmuch as Owino messed this young man up for the rest of his life, he needs to be held liable for his financial and physical well being permanently. Watch the video and tell me if this is not cold blooded. If Kenyan jurisprudence is anything to go by he will never see another day in jail.

@mundumugo, the dad is on a survival mode and all he wants now is for the son to be taken care of while in hospital and bills paid. However, when the gravity of the condition hits him, when he realizes the grievous bodily harm Ongili caused doubt he will be as gracious. I do not believe we have heard the last of him. This was no doubt attempted murder.

@ Mr John., it’s fo fools like you that Kenya is lagging behind. What’s there to that this killer and murderer? I am sorry to say but if the bullet went through his spine it’s such a big deal and serious. His quality of life is just going to be so painful and unbearable. The spine is delicate and Kenya doesn’t have many doctors performing spinal surgery. So your call guess is as good as mine. Your son was shot in broad day light and you should be condemning such coward acts. You should be in all house media’s condemning the judiciary for letting this killer and murderer out.. Babu how I wish you were in Bronx or LA or any other major US city you would be begging to be in solitary confinement. I pray for justice for the young DJ who is now paralyzed and can’t talk

Words have power, so I will avoid making negative Comments. The fact that DJ Evolve actually survived the shooting itself is a Miracle. Let us pray for him, and wish him total recovery. As the Good Book says, 'the Prayers of a Righteous Person can work Wonders'.

Well, most people lost the focus. Which should be the DJ's condition and chances of surviving. The safety in clubs. The gun licencing laws in Kenya. Definitely the brains of Owino were not normal when he shot the helpless DJ. The act of taking the DJ to the Nairobi hospital was to save his life and reduce his case from murder charge. We should be happy that the life of the DJ was prolonged but thanking Owino is a challenge. The lawyers are fighting to represent Owino and none has volunteered to represent the DJ. Bure kabisa.

Babu took him to hosi to avoid a murder charge since attempted murder is a lesser act. Dadi, Babu does not care for your son. Dont be fooled

@Mary,you are very right. Its better to be charged with attempted murder than murder itself. However, ihighly doubt if the charges would rise to the level of murder since premeditation is required. All in all if one has conscience, its bad enough to end someone's life, even in self defense. Apparently ongili came to his senses after the fact.
I would not be surprised if ongili or his friends visited Mzee, and encouraged him to "mitigate"the situation.

You are thanking a thug for almost killing your son???? How pathetic. This little criminal will buy his way out of prison any minute now.

Personally I would rather die than be paralysed from the neck down. What's the use of living when you're just a burden to everyone and your quality of life is zero. How can a mentally fit father thank the goon that shot and destroyed his son?

Famed Nairobi mobster lawyer & his cohorts make a call to the mzee, ask for a public statement that will be added into evidence. I’m thinking 200k via mpesa in January seals the deal...
