James Nyoro’s Swearing-In as New Kiambu Governor Called Off

James Nyoro’s Swearing-In as New Kiambu Governor Called Off

The Judiciary has called off the planned swearing-in of Dr. James Nyoro as the new Kiambu Governor.

Nyoro was set to take an oath of office on Thursday morning following the impeachment of Governor Ferdinand Waititu by the Senate on Wednesday evening. In an announcement, the Judiciary said the ceremony was postponed due to “unavoidable reasons.”

“For unavoidable reasons, the swearing-in of Dr. James Nyoro will not be conducted today. A new date will be communicated in due course. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.

The Judiciary had dispatched Justice John Onyiego to swear-in Nyoro in accordance with the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act, 2019.

“High Court Judge Onyiego will today, January 30, preside over the swearing-in ceremony of the new Kiambu Governor James Nyoro,” the Judiciary said in a statement.

On Wednesday, Senators voted in favor of Waititu’s impeachment on the grounds of gross violation of the Constitution and public finance management act, crimes under the national law and gross misconduct/abuse of office.
