Detectives Hunt for Three Suspects who Allegedly Tortured, Killed Dutch Tycoon Tob Cohen

Officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are on the trail of three more suspects who were allegedly involved in the murder of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen.

The three are said to have tortured Cohen to death before stuffing his body in an underground water tank at his home in Nairobi’s Kitisuru estate, according to Citizen Digital.

The body of the businessman was retrieved from the tank on Friday, nearly two months after he went missing.

The three suspects, whose identities have not been revealed, are believed to have traveled from Nakuru to Kitisuru on the day Cohen was murdered.
Authorities said the three have links with Peter Karanja, estranged husband to Gilgil MP Martha Wangari, who is in police custody over the killing of the 71-year-old Dutchman.

Detectives reportedly traced Karanja’s phone signal at the crime scene before it went off and then re-emerged in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

Cohen’s estranged wife Sarah Wairimu Kamotho was the first suspect to be arrested over his disappearance and killing. Detectives said she is the prime suspect in the crime.

Wairimu, who was arrested on August 28th, was arraigned in court on Thursday to face murder charges but did not take a plea. The court ordered she undergoes a mental assessment.

Homicide detectives will reportedly be probing alleged Mpesa transactions, messages and other communications between Ms. Wairimu and Karanja.

Cohen went missing on July 19th, 2019. Before his disappearance, Cohen and Ms. Wairimu were embroiled in a bitter divorce case involving a multi-million-shilling property.

Cohen had also sued Wairimu for assault and cited continuous harassment and denial of his conjugal rights in the case.
