Uhuru, Kibaki, Raila Mourn Jonathan Moi

President Kenyatta has mourned the death of Jonathan Toroitich, the first-born son of former President Daniel Arap Moi.

Jonathan, popularly known as JT, reportedly succumbed to cancer while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nakuru on Friday.

In a message of condolences, Kenyatta has expressed solidarity with Moi's family, describing Jonathan as a humble, kind, generous and courageous man.

“Your Excellency, our collective thoughts and prayers as a family and as a country are with you, your family and friends during this difficult period of mourning. May the Almighty God rest the soul of our brother and friend Jonathan Toroitich Moi in eternal peace,” Kenyatta says.

“JT’s word was always his bond, he was dependable,” Kenyatta adds.

Other leaders including former President Mwai Kibaki and Opposition leader Raila Odinga have also condoled with Moi's family

Kibaki says: “A self-effacing and private person, Jonathan will be remembered for his breakthroughs in motor sporting, farming, and business."

Raila tweets: "My family and that of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga send deeply-felt condolences to President Daniel Arap Moi following the death of Jonathan Moi. We wish strength for the former President and his family to bear the loss. May God grant peace to the family at this sad moment."

"He was sociable, affable and loved a good laugh. Jonathan treasured family, friendships and committed himself to bettering the lives of others,” Deputy President William Ruto states.

“Jonathan was well known as an outstanding rally driver in the heydays of the Safari Rally. May God give Mzee Moi and his family the fortitude to bear this heavy loss,” Chief Justice David Maraga says.
