KRA Simplifies Returns Filing for Employees

Filing tax returns has been made easier following the latest move by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
KRA says that it has made modifications that will enable Kenyans filing their returns do so in a two-step process.
The taxman explains that employees will now only be required to fill in data about their pension and annual relief while filing returns.
The tax agency says it has configured its online tax filing system, iTax to automatically capture the data from employers who remit Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax for their employees.
KRA commissioner-general John Njiraini says this is the first phase of the ongoing configuration of the system to upload data from third-party systems.
“We have a full series of enhancements that we are doing to iTax that are already ongoing,” Njiraini says as quoted by the Business Daily.
“Those of you who are employees, when your employers do PAYE declarations, that information comes with your PIN and iTax is able to pick it and place it in your account.”
This means employees will now be required to review and confirm various data sets that they previously had to key into the system.
The deadline for filing 2018 tax returns is 30th June 2019.
