Missing Nairobi Human Rights Activist Caroline Mwatha Found Dead
Caroline Mwatha, a human rights activist from Dandora, Nairobi has been found dead seven days after she went missing.
The body of Ms. Mwatha was found at City Mortuary in Nairobi on Tuesday afternoon.
The body of the deceased was reportedly booked at the morgue by a private citizen at around 4 am on Tuesday.
Mwatha went missing on Wednesday last week with her disappearance being reported by her family at Buru Buru Police Station.
She is a founder member and caseworker with Dandora Community Social Justice Centre, which speaks against extrajudicial killings.
According to Daily Nation, police investigations have established that Mwatha, who was five months pregnant, died at a clinic in Dandora where she had reportedly gone for an abortion.
The owner of the clinic and a doctor have reportedly admitted that "they took the body to the mortuary and booked her under a different name and indicated she died of diarrhea", Daily Nation reports.
Police are said to have seen text messages of the activist planning the abortion with the clinic's owner.
Police spokesperson Charles Owino says two suspects have been arrested in connection with her death.
"We have two suspects in custody and they are the ones who led detectives to the mortuary," Owino says.

Reread twice and shook my head 20times...., she was in social justice and of extrajudicial killings, a Human rights activist, (really). And so in her own mind her 5month old fully formed baby in her utero didn’t need justice....?
Shame on you dead lady .... if you had any education and a clue what human rights are,you had 4months to deliver and if that baby could have been a burden to you, why not hand her to your social justice office, drop her off at Dandora children’s home.

@Njai, thanks for the tip. Was clearly oblivious of the background. Having said that, I remember I read about her and her job a while ago in which she was speaking of her job and how she wanted to expand it. I knew she would step on toes and would not last long. To respond to your original question, the Police should always be held to account as a public service. They are not beyond this, hence Kenyans are within their right to demand justice where things don't add up. Her death looks dodgy to me, just like Musando, Saitoti, etc..... all very dodgy in this dodgy land of ours where the fat cats skim the cream whilst the under dogs struggle to make a living. I don't buy that abortion B.S.
