MP Crafts Bill to Compel Gov't to Give Unemployed Kenyan Graduates Monthly Stipends

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi is set to table a Bill seeking to compel the government to offer monthly stipends to unemployed Kenyan graduates.

In his Bill, MP Amisi wants jobless Kenyan graduates to be given monthly stipends by the government until they find jobs.

Amisi says it is the responsibility of the government to create job opportunities for fresh graduates but notes that thousands of educated Kenyan youth continue to suffer due to lack of jobs.

He argues that the lack of jobs is driving skilled and jobless youths into crime including robbery, drug abuse and terrorism due to frustration.

"To prevent the youths, especially the unemployed graduates, from joining criminal gangs and militia groups like al-Shabaab, the government should pay them stipends to enable them to take care of their daily needs," MP Amisi says.

Kenya has been ranked as one of the countries with the highest rate of unemployment in the East African region in a recent study by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The study shows that one out of every five youth in the country is unemployed even as universities continue to churn out thousands of graduates into the job market every year.

That is stupidity. Fight corruption first. If there is no corruption many people will be able to get jobs. That kind of welfare makes many akataa remain in poverty because they do not see any need for looking for a job. After all you will go to welfare office at the end of the month and get a check.

Walio na pesa waanzishe viwanda vingi vya kutoa ajira kwa mamilioni ya vijana wengi wasio na kazi.

I oppose it. This would be setting up avery dangerous precedent-FREE MONEY. If the government is struggling to pay its debts, why are some Mpigs thinking of increasing expenses, without increasing revenue?...First of all, unemployment does not necessarily lead to criminal activities....We see all these rich fatcats comitting crimes.
How will they determine how much stipend is enough to stop these unemployed youths from joining criminal gangs?
How about secondary schools leaver who for no fault of their own are unemployed?Shouldnt they get something. Why ony University graduates.Further more, that's not the way to fight crime.
The better way is for government to subsidize companies, and have these students work for their money.

What a stupid proposal. The government should not be in business to afford welfare to any graduates. It should encourage private sector to invest and expand the economy thus creating jobs in the republic. Majority
og government employees are corrupt as hell. What is this guy smoking?

Create opportunities, gainful employment, fight corruption, impunity and nepotism; and hold the universities accountable for the relevance of the degrees they are churning. Stop recycling the retired folks back to workforce. Giving stipend is a lazy attempt to solve a complex problem, think again Sir!

May be for once we should agree with these Mpigs. They just gave themselves 400% increase in their political tourism. Why not let chips fall where they may. They are recycling old folks, engaging in all out corruption, nepotism, working to retain old overworked (outdated policies) Dynasties in power, continuing to give citizens " Dead end Education" . Let them stop caring and give free money to graduates to make them lazy and dependent. This might work as the new imported policy of "Welfare". "By creating dependency, you create power and need for yourself". This will definitely create the new lazy and dependent population that the country is so eager to create. We will definitely have a good population of consumers who will never be capable of thinking. A society that will for ever look to the government as the provider (father and mother) and therefore a society that will never mature to provide for either themselves or their families. A society that will fit it description "Shit hole countries" and "Africa a cemetery". This is the full prescription by our so called leaders. God give Kenya leaders not politicians. God help Kenya!!
