Four Arrested for Conning Kenyans of Millions of Shillings Using First Lady Margret Kenyatta's Name

Detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit have arrested four people suspected to have defrauded Kenyans of millions of shillings using the name of First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.

In a statement, DCI says the four created a website similar to that of Uwezo Fund and used Mrs Kenyatta's name to con millions of shillings from victims after asking them to send an application fee for loan processing through Mpesa.

They are identified as Brian Kiplagat, Dominic Kimutai, Joakim Kibet and Collins Kiptanui, all aged between 19 and 24.

"Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit have Today afternoon arrested four young men who created a website similar to Uwezo Fund and using the name of the @FirstLadyKenya, defrauded applicants millions of shillings after they sent an application fee for loan processing."

"The four suspects are currently in lawful custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday. We thank the members of the public for their vigilance,"  DCI says.

The suspects were nabbed following a tip-off from a member of the public who informed police of the fake website used to con unsuspecting Kenyans.

"Quick loans better value, fast and easy, quick decision online, convenient. Get your loan within minutes! Straight to your M-Pesa," The fake website Uwezofund.org reads.
