Kenya Strikes New Aviation Training Deal with the US Government

Kenya has signed a new aviation training agreement with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

In the deal, the FAA will teach Flight Safety Inspector courses at the East African School of Aviation (EASA) in Nairobi. The agreement makes EASA a training venue for Federal Aviation Administration in Africa.

“EASA is not just a training venue but a partner in Aviation training. Initially, the courses will be delivered by FAA staff but eventually local capacity to deliver the courses will be built through Train the Trainers program,” says Capt. Gilbert M Kibe, Director General, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

"The signing of the training agreement also signifies Kenya’s commitment to the growth and development of Civil Aviation together with improving Flight Safety in Africa," Kibe adds.

Capt. Gilbert M Kibe signed the deal on behalf of Kenya while FAA Deputy Administrator, Carl Burleson represented the US.

Other Kenyan officials present include Eng. Joseph Nkadayo (KCAA Board Chaiman), Capt. Tom Ogenche (Director Aviation Safety Security and Regulations) and Charity Musila (Director Air Navigation Services).

The deal was signed at the FAA headquarters in Washington, DC on Friday ahead of Kenya Airways' maiden direct flight to JFK International Airport in New York on Sunday.
