Man Accused of Conning Kenyans of Millions of Shillings while Posing as KRA Officer Arrested, Charged

A man accused of conning Kenyans of millions of shillings while masquerading as a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officer has been arrested and charged in court.

Sammy Ngugi Kabiruri alias Benson Njoroge has reportedly been luring unsuspecting victims to give him cash with promise of selling them unregistered cars lying at a godown in Mombasa.

The suspect has been charged with obtaining money under false pretence, contrary to Section 357 of the Penal Code.

Ngugi is accused that on diverse dates between March 21st and May 6th, he obtained Sh1,243,970 from David Mburu Baiya together with his accomplices.

He allegedly posed as Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officer in charge of container freight station in Mombasa and claimed to be in a position to sell unregistered cars lying at customs warehouse at Kilindini in Mombasa.

In the second count, the suspect is said to have obtained Sh879,358 from one Peter Kamau Maina using similar tricks. Police are still looking for his accomplices who have since gone underground.

Police say Ngugi has been approaching unsuspecting Kenyans posing as KRA officer and driving them all the way to Mombasa in a bid to win their hearts.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on Sh600, 000 bond. The case will be mentioned on October 29th.

I like how quickly they are able to catch crooks in Kenya...but the catch and release worries a lot especially to those rogue leaders involved with corruption....at least not with love 'murder accuseds' like Obado and Jowie

I don’t sympathize with these buffoons anymore. How many times must y’ll be played with the same tactics and continue coming back?THERE’S NO SHORTCUTS IN LIFE MY FRENS. Man is greedy,if these guys could make you a quick buck like they claim, they wouldn’t still be out there hustling. They wouldn’t give you a second of their time.. They’d keep it all to themselves.
