Garissa Governor Ali Korane Arrested over Attempted Murder of Former County Minister

Police have arrested Garissa Governor Ali Korane over attempted murder of former Garissa County Finance minister Idris Muktar in Nairobi's Kileleshwa area.

Korane was arrested at his residence in Kilimani on Tuesday morning and was driven to the Nairobi Police Area headquarters for questioning.

It is suspected that the shooting of Muktar could be connected to the case he and two others won against Garissa County over wrongful dismissal.

In the case, the court ordered Garissa County to pay the three Sh53 million as compensation, a decision that allegedly left some top county officials aggrieved.

Prior to the shooting incident on August 20th, Muktar’s family said the former minister had received death threats after the court ruled in his favour.

Police officers are said to have pitched tent outside the governor’s home overnight and seized him when he came out at 5am on Tuesday.

Mkutar was shot in the head by three assailants outside a hotel in Nairobi about a week ago.

Police said the gang followed the victim to his car and shot him at close range before fleeing without stealing anything from him. Muktar is currently admitted at a Nairobi hospital where he's fighting for his life.
