Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu Fires Minister for Being a 'Facebook Addict'

Kiambu Governor Ferdinard Waititu has allegedly fired John Mugwe, the county's Water CEC for being a 'Facebook addict'.

Mugwe had been sent on a compulsory leave in April after the governor alleged that he was addicted to the social networking site. In a dismissal letter dated May 8th, Governor Waititu says he had noted that the official was not committed to the task given to him.

"I have observed that you are neither keen on delivering on your responsibilities nor making service delivery to the people of Kiambu your immediate focus," the May 8th letter reads in part.

"You are also not a good team player hence affecting the overall performance of your responsibilities and that of the county government as a whole."

"Therefore, within the powers set out in Section 31(a) of the County Government Act, 2012,I hereby relieve you of your responsibilities as a CEC and from any other portfolio which you may be holding," Waititu said.

Waititu further asked Mugwe to hand over all county assets in his possession and make a handover report the county secretary.

In a suspension letter last month, Waititu said that the "the CEC was bragging on social media to attract admiration instead of executing his mandate to serve the people of Kiambu."

"If your work is taking pictures and posting them on Facebook and WhatsApp, then we shall not allow that," Waititu said as quoted by other media outlets.

Mugwe had abandoned his ambitions for Kiambu governor after holding consultative meetings with Jubilee Party leadership in the run to the last general elections.
