Martha Karua Storms Out of President Uhuru's Meeting

Nack Kenya leader Martha Karua allegedly walked out of a meeting presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Sagana State lodge on Friday and attended by Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru.

Karua was among the leaders drawn from the entire Mt Kenya region who attended the meeting to draw a campaign strategy for President Uhuru's reelection bid in the repeat presidential election ordered by the Supreme Court.

The meeting brought together leaders elected on a Jubilee ticket and the losers in the August 8th election in all counties from the Mt. Kenya region.

In the meeting, it was agreed each county form a campaign team, chosen from among themselves. So the leaders grouped themselves by their counties, which meant that Karua and Waiguru would meet face to face.

It is at this point that Karua, who has petitioned Waiguru's victory in the August polls then stormed out of the meeting, refusing to be party to the teams that will campaign for Uhuru. Former Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi followed suit moments later.

President Uhuru, witnessing the incident, called on the leaders to be patient with each other.

“No need of bitterness or animosity, let us move forward together. Don't be like Raila who wants to derail development,” Uhuru said.

Karua and Ndathi lost to Waiguru in the race for Kirinyaga top seat, but Karua has claimed she lost unfairly and has filed a petition seeking the nullification of the entire election on grounds that it was flawed.
