Nyeri All Set to Host First National Madaraka Day Celebrations

Final preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, and Nyeri is all set to host its first national celebrations. The event will be the third national public holiday event to be held outside Nairobi after Machakos and Nakuru counties.

Central Regional Coordinator Ann Ng’etich has asked Kenyans to turn up in large numbers for the celebrations to be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta at Kabiruini grounds in Nyeri. Security has been beefed up ahead of the event, with Ng’etich assuring that enough security measures and security personnel have been deployed to ensure that everyone will be safe.

Opposition leaders including National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka are expected to attend the event.

Over Sh70 million was used to give the grounds a facelift ahead of the June 1st event that celebrates the day Kenya gained self-rule from the colonial British.
