Mike Sonko Picks Polycarp Igathe as His Running Mate in Race for Nairobi Governor

Mike Sonko has picked Polycarp Igathe as his running mate in the race for Nairobi Governor.

Polycarp is the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Kenya, and staff at Vivo said Polycarp will be taking a “major pay cut” in leaving his position for politics.

In picking Polycarp, Sonko fulfilled his earlier pledge of having a technocrat with managerial experience to quiet his critics who said he is inexperienced to run the country’s biggest county.

Sonko and Polycarp will contest for the seat on a Jubilee ticket against incumbent Governor Evans Kidero and Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke of ODM. Miguna Miguna is also running as an independent, and last week nominated 24-year-old James Gathungu as his running mate.

Sonko had earlier floated several names as possible running mates, including formr Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, businessman Jimnah Mbaru, and former PS and presidential candidate James ole Kiyiapi.
